Wix for Small Business Review (2026): The Best Overall — Once You Buy the Right Plan

Ask ten shop owners what their site runs on and you'll hear one name more than any other. After pricing it against four rivals for this year's rankings, we think the crowd has it right: Wix for small business is the strongest all-round package of 2026 — provided you buy the correct plan, and provided you understand how the billing works before you hand over a card. Both of those provisos cost real money, so this review puts numbers on them.

We score builders the way an owner would: cost per month, time to launch, and whether the site actually captures work — calls, quote requests, bookings. On those measures Wix sits at the top of our ranking of the best website builder for small business, with an 8.6 out of 10.

What Wix actually costs in 2026

Four paid plans, and the gaps between them matter. On annual billing: Light is $17 a month, Core is $29, Business is $39 and Business Elite is $159. Pay month-to-month instead and those become $24, $36, $46 and $172. There's also a genuinely free tier — your site lives on a wixsite.com subdomain and carries Wix ads, which makes it a fine sandbox and a poor storefront.

Now the footnote that surprises people: annual plans are charged in full, upfront, before tax. 'Core, $29 a month' means roughly $348 plus tax leaving your account on day one. It's still the cheaper way to buy Wix, but treat it as a yearly bill when you plan cash flow, not a monthly one.

Annual tiers also include a voucher for a free domain for the first year. Read the small print: it's for first-time plan purchases only, you must redeem it within 60 days, it covers new domains only, WHOIS privacy isn't part of the deal, and monthly billing gets no voucher at all. After the free year, Wix publishes a renewal range of $7.90 to $44.90 per year depending on the domain — at the time of checking, a typical .com renewal appeared to land somewhere in the teens.

Light vs Core: buy the right plan the first time

Light at $17 a month covers what a brochure site needs: your own domain, no Wix ads, and contact forms — capped at 4 forms with 10 fields and 2 email recipients. If the entire job is 'people find us and call us', Light does it, and does it cheaper than most rivals' entry plans once you compare renewals.

The catch is payments: Light takes zero online payments of any kind. No paid bookings, no deposits, no selling. A salon charging for appointments or a plumber collecting deposits needs Core at $29 a month — the cheapest plan that accepts money. That's a $144-a-year difference, and plenty of Light buyers discover it only after the site is built. So decide up front: if money will ever change hands on the site, start on Core and skip the mid-year upgrade.

Wix Bookings is the best reason to choose Wix

Wix Bookings, the scheduling system, is free to install on any plan — but accepting payment for a booking online requires Core or above. The scheduling feature is tiered as well: Core gets the basic level, Business gets the standard level and adds HIPAA-compliant bookings (relevant if you run a clinic or therapy practice), Business Elite gets the advanced tier, and Light gets none.

Once running, you have a real scheduling operation without a second subscription — which is exactly the trap two of Wix's rivals fall into. Card processing through Wix Payments costs 2.9% plus 30 cents on US cards, with no platform commission on top. If scheduling is the one feature you're shopping for, our comparison of website builders with booking appointments walks the whole field.

Quote forms, chat and the rest of the lead stack

Forms scale with plan. Light's 4 forms and 10 fields handle a contact page; Core jumps to 10 forms with 50 fields and unlocks payment, appointment, file-upload and signature fields; Business allows 25 forms with 75 fields. For a trade, that file-upload field is quietly the killer feature — a quote form where the customer attaches a photo of the burst pipe or the fuse board answers half your questions before the first phone call.

Every plan, including the free one, ships with Wix Inbox and a Contacts list that works as a light CRM, and Smart Chat lets you answer visitors live at no extra cost (the AI-answered version draws on bundled AI credits). Email marketing starts free at 200 Wix-branded sends a month; the paid Essentials tier is $10 a month for 500 sends. Our guide to the best website builder for lead generation digs into which of these features actually produce enquiries.

Will it get a plumber more calls? The honest answer: every piece you'd want is here — a tappable phone number, quote forms with uploads, live chat, a booking page — and no competitor ships that complete set on a single bill.

The App Market: an aisle for everything

The other thing you're buying is headroom. The Wix App Market covers restaurant menus, review widgets, pop-ups, events, loyalty schemes and a long tail of other bolt-ons, so 'my site can't do that' is rarely a permanent problem — you add an app instead of rebuilding elsewhere. One caution from watching owners shop that aisle: plenty of good apps carry their own monthly fee. Add two or three and your $29 plan quietly becomes a $50 stack, so check each app's price tag the way you'd check a supplier invoice.

The fine print, in plain money

  • The advertised monthly price is an annual charge. Budget the whole year — about $348 plus tax for Core — as one payment.
  • Choose monthly billing and you pay more per month and lose the free domain voucher.
  • Some 2026 reviews report an extra platform fee of around 2–4% on recurring subscription sales on plans below Business Elite, and a chargeback fee of about $15. We couldn't confirm either figure first-hand at the time of checking, so if memberships are part of your model, verify the fee on your own checkout before launch.
  • The free-year domain excludes WHOIS privacy — worth knowing if you'd rather keep your home address out of public records.

When Wix is overkill

If your business needs one page — name, trade, phone number, photos, service area — Wix's editor, dashboard and app aisle are more machinery than the job calls for, and a cheaper builder will do. Our breakdown of what a small business website costs shows how little the simple version can run. At the other end, if customers choose you on looks — wedding photography, high-end salon work — read our Squarespace small business review before deciding: it takes the design further, at a price.

Verdict: the safe default for a working shop

An 8.6 out of 10 and first place in our rankings. Wix charges fairly for what it does, covers nearly everything a service business needs, and its free plan means you can build the entire site before spending a dollar. Go in with the annual charge understood and Core selected if you'll ever take payments, and it's the pick we'd make for most owners.
